Is your PC Operating System up to date?

Do you apply software Patches to your operating system when they are announced? Is it set to be done automatically?

Everyone always wants you to do more and fair enough, we become more and more resistant to spending time on things that people are fear-mongering about.

But this is real!  And the solution is simple. Set and forget!

There is a Microsoft vulnerability which if you are using older versions could mean you are working with a ticking time bomb!
Here is an article from AVAST about it

It is called Blue Keep and if you are still using these older versions - Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008, it affects YOU.
It attacks an operating systems's Remote Desk Protocol which connects your PC to another.

It is not an alarmist myth!
The alarm was sounded much louder when the United States’ 30,000-employee National Security Agency took the unusual step of reinforcing the warnings. The Microsoft vulnerability “could spread without user interaction across the internet,” the NSA warned in an advisory about BlueKeep. “We have seen devastating computer worms inflict damage on unpatched systems with wide-ranging impact, and are seeking to motivate increased protections against this flaw.”

Make sure you add the patch and turn on Windows Security Updates to keep your PC safe. Don't be the one that gets caught  because  these warnings were ignored.

Don't take the risk! Update your Windows today!

And while you are thinking of security, how good are your backups?

When did you last try and restore a file?  Are you sure your backups have worked? Who is checking that backups are happening and are effective? Are you backing up onto a flash drive or saving the backup files over and over on the same disk? If you back up to the cloud are you sure that it is happening?

Here is a real life hacking disaster and it happened here in Adelaide!
